Travelling is always an expensive experience and your travel budget can often be drained before you even get anywhere.  Let's see how you can save some money on your next family trip:
Tips to have a cheap family holiday

Beware of hidden costs

How did a meal get so expensive? Why is my ticket more expensive than I thought?  The number one advice for family travel on a budget is to calculate all hidden costs before booking.

Use the flight comparison sites

Your flight is often your biggest expense. So make sure you do your research before you book to find the best option. A comparison site like Jetcost can help you save a lot of money!

Search all transport options

Compare means of transport to find out which is the cheapest. If you normally fly, could you do it cheaper by train? Could you also do it by car or bus? A night train may seem like an expensive option, but it might save you a night in a hotel in the city.

Use local transport instead of tourist options

When you are there, keep an eye on local transport costs, as these can increase. Watch out for the cost of an open-top bus compared to the local authority version. Children travel free on some public transport, so it is worth asking the Tourist Office. And walking is always a cheap option!

Keep your documents up to date

Make sure all your passports are updated in advance so you don't need an expensive emergency trip to the passport office before you leave. And bring along any medical cards or documents that can help you if you need to visit a medical clinic abroad. Photocopy this in case you get lost.

Book flights long before you leave

Book your flight in advance. Leave plenty of time for check-in and look for flights at unpopular times or indirect flights and leave some time between flights to make sure you don't miss one.
